7月17日上午11点36分，一班波音767-300全货机从湖北鄂州花湖机场起飞，标志着中国首座专业货运机场正式投运。同时，它也是亚洲第一座、世界第四座专业货运枢纽。
A Boeing 767-300 cargo plane took off from the Ezhou Huahu Airport in central China's Hubei Province at 11:36 a.m. Sunday, marking the official start of operations of China's first professional cargo hub airport. It is also the first professional cargo hub airport in Asia and the fourth of its kind in the world.

鄂州花湖机场近期规划目标为2025年旅客吞吐量100万人次、货邮吞吐量245万吨，建有1.5万平方米的航站楼、124个机位的站坪，配套建设塔台、航管、通讯、导航、航油等设施。货运首期开通鄂州至深圳、上海2条货运航线，年内还将开通大阪、法兰克福等国际货运航线。预计到2025年，花湖机场将开通国际货运航线10条左右、国内航线50条左右。
从鄂州花湖机场出发，1.5小时飞行圈可覆盖包括长三角城市群、珠三角城市群在内的中国五大国家级城市群。涵盖全国90%的经济总量，货物有望实现“一日达全国，隔夜达全球”目标。鄂州花湖机场白天将主要满足客运需求，夜间将主打货运航空。与距离不超过100公里的区域性枢纽机场——武汉天河国际机场，形成航空客货“双枢纽”格局。
