In the movie If You Are the One II, Qin Fen, played by Ge You, put Xiaoxiao, his girlfriend’s name, as the beneficiary on an insurance policy. This classic plot has not only swept the audience off their feet but also set a precedent for expressing love with insurance in token of love.
Besides romantic candlelit dinners, beautiful flowers and sweet chocolates, "love" has got its own insurance product. Quite a few companies have introduced "love insurance" products with both husband and wife as beneficiaries, according to the informed resources. Although love insurance cannot insure love as a sure thing, such joint insurance by couples can be a good investment option, financial experts say.
If You Are the One来翻译《非诚勿扰》,这是比较可取、也是值得提倡的做法。
据此,笔者把“夫妻联名共保的保险产品”译为“insurance products with both husband and wife as beneficiaries”。 Insurance held jointly by two or more insurers.
Low and medium-income white-collars suffer from persistent CPI rising
The latest data released by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) of China indicate that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) surged to a record high of 6.4% year-on-year in June. Interviews revealed that the steadily rising commodity prices have degraded the life quality of low and medium-income white-collars. The group of price-sensitive people is on an expanding trend.
Zhou Wei, who works at Pearl River Administration of Navigational Affairs in Guangzhou for a monthly salary of RMB 5000, a moderate income, told the reporter that the rise of commodity prices has made her "sensitive to price". Her pursued complaints ran as follows, "Salaries stay put while commodity prices keep moving up, all that I can do is spend as little as possible such as shopping less for clothes, taking buses or subways instead of taxis. I used to buy fruits at will, regardless of the price, but now I just buy fruits like water melon, apples, for they are relatively cheaper and can be kept longer."
“呈现扩大化趋势”指的是对物价敏感的人数越来越多,所以除了忠实于原文的表达,把这句话译为“The group of price-sensitive people is on an expanding trend.”之外,还可以把这句话意译为“The number of price-sensitive people is on the increase”。
我们不可以译成“Zhouwei is a moderate income group”、或者this could be counted as middle class group、或者she can be counted on moderate income group等等。
译者应该通过词典、互联网、图书馆、专家咨询等方法进行查寻,找出其对应的英文名称,然后予以引用,而不是根据自己的经验或某些翻译原则把“国家统计局”翻译为“State statistics Bureau”、“State Statistical Bureau”、“National Statistics Bureau”或者把“珠江航务管理局”翻译为“Zhujiang Shipping Administration Bureau”、“Zhujiang Navigation Management Bureau”、“Aeronautical Staff Administration of ZhuJiang”、“Pearl River Aeronautical Staff Administration”、“Shipping Administration of the Pearl River”等。
"College Tour" Colorful guide flags, uniform printed shirts, travelling caps, crowded people, floating vehicle-rentals, peddlers--these boisterous scenes are not observed on the Great Wall, or in the Palace Museum, but before the gates of such prestigious universities as Peking University, and Tsinghua University.
As summer holiday approaches, package tours specially designed for students are heating up. Besides traditional sight-seeing tours of landscapes and places of interests, "World Expo" and so on, "College Tour" or ""Study Tour" has in recent years become the leading tour service of some travel agencies. Parents rack their brains to enter their children for such a tour, in the hope of familiarizing their children with the ambitious college atmosphere. However, the enthusiasm for a "college tour" has brought unexpected challenges to campus environment, management, security and so on.
