（1）精警（ Paradox; Oxymoron）：看似抵触、实则进情进理的抵触润饰方法

　　1、

　　他细味他俩最近的多少页可恶的历史。想一节伤一回心，但他甘心这样甜美的伤心。《朱自清文集》第一卷

　　He meditated upon their recent pleasant experiences. Each time he indulged in such meditation, he felt heart-broken. But he was eager to taste this kind of sweet bitterness.

　　（2）双关(pun)的翻译

　　1、北京英语翻译公司

　　杨柳青青江程度，闻朗江上唱歌声；东边日出西边雨，道是无晴却有晴。（刘禹锡《竹枝词》）Between the willows green the river flows along,My beloved in a boat is heard singing a song.The west is veilled in rain, the east basks in sunshine,My beloved is as deep in love as the day is fine.

　　2、

　　春蚕到逝世丝方尽，蜡炬成灰泪识嗌偕。（李商隐《无题》）The silkworm till its death spins silk from love-sick heart;The candle only when burnt has no tears to shed.

　　3、

　　Second to None 二战刚过，一艘美国战舰耀武扬威地驶进英国港口，旗号是“Second to None”（老子天下第一）。一艘褴褛不堪的小炮艇听到美国战舰旁，打出旗号“None”，极大地耻辱了傲慢的美国人。有人将这里的双关旗语译为：“无人能比”------“无人”

　　4、

　　空对着，山中高士晶莹雪；终不忘，世外仙姝寂寞林。（曹雪芹《红楼梦》） Vainly facing the hhermit in sparkling snow-clad hills I forget not the fairy in lone woods beyond the world.(杨宪益跟戴乃迭译）该译文不可能译出原双关语所传达的薛宝钗跟林黛玉的性格。

　　5、

　　***万税天下太贫这是解放前有人讽刺公民党反动统治的一副对联。“税”跟 “贫”构成谐音双关。

　　6、

　　The professor rapped on his desk and shouted, "Gentlemen, order!" The entire class yelled,"Beer!"教养猛拍讲桌，叫道：“先生们，order!”全班学生齐声高呼：“Beer！”order一词多义：其中一个意思是“安静，秩序”，恰是教养这里的本意；另一个意思是“点菜”。全班学生成心曲解，而大喊“啤酒”，教养晕倒，读者不免哄堂大笑。

　　7 、

　　When a woman complained to her butcher that his sausages tasted like meat at one end, but like bread at the other, he replied,"Madam, in times like these no butcher can make both ends meat." 最后的"meat"(meet)是谐音双关，名义的意思是“把腊肠的两头都填上肉”，实际上butcher的本意是英语

　　成语“make both ends meet” (使收支均衡，靠菲薄的收进为生），目前尚无较好的汉语译文。

　　（3）赏析英语的对称美

　　一、成语的对称美：表示为成语排列情势上的对称美，可分为雷同词的对称、同义词的对称、反义词的对称、同类词的对称等多少种情况。

　　1、雷同词的对称。以介词、连词或动词为"对称轴"对称，从视觉上就能给人以美的享受，令人愉悦；读起来琅琅上口，颇具韵味；意思简洁明了，形象活泼。其中有关体态语言的一些对称成语，确切能让人懂得到对称美在英语中的体现。

　　例如：

　　day by day 每日

　　day after day 每日

　　one by one 一一

　　bit by bit 一点点地

　　little by little 匆匆地

　　step by step 逐步地

　　by and by 逐步

　　side by side 并排

　　face (nose) to face (nose) 背靠背 back to back 背靠背

　　hand in hand 手拉手

　　arm in arm 挽手

　　mouth to mouth嘴对嘴

　　heart to heart 交心，谈心

　　neck and neck 并驾齐驱

　　eye to eye 赞成

　　head to head 窃窃私语

　　shoulder to shoulder 并肩

　　inch by inch 一点一点地

　　like for like 以牙还牙

　　英语中的叠声词（组）

　　英语中有很多叠声词（组），复合词或词组前后发音相近，读起来朗朗上口，富有音乐感。

　　Tit for tat：针锋绝对

　　Tweedledum and tweedledee：难史难弟

　　hum and haw：表示迟疑或支吾的嗯嗯呃呃声

　　cling-clang：叮当作响，铿锵声。

　　rat-tat, rat-a-rat, rat-tat -tat：（敲门的）砰砰声。

　　Flip-flop：啪嗒啪嗒地响（动）

　　Zigzag８? 淝矍?

　　Hotch-potch：大杂烩

　　Criss-cross：犬牙交错

　　Helter-skelter：慌慌张张

　　Shilly-shally：犹迟疑豫

　　Chit-chat：拉呱

　　Dillydally：磨磨蹭蹭

　　Tittle-tattle：嚼舌头，教唆离间

　　Higgledy-piggledy：乱七八糟

　　Walkie-talkie：步话机

　　Job-hop：跳槽

　　有些单词正看、反看都有意思，越看越有意思，越有意思越想看。因为英语单词只能横向变更，不高低构造，故叫妙趣“横”生。如：

　　live倒过来就是evil。可见“生活”不能倒置，倒置过来就是“罪恶”——俨如警世通言！又，鼠辈造反（猜一英语单词）。答案是star。因为star从后往前读，正好是rats。英语中有不少单词左右有讲，堪称翻然成趣。

　　像这样的单词还有：

　　Are--------- era(时代)；

　　bin（贮躲器）----- nib（笔尖）；

　　but ------ tub（盆）；

　　deer(鹿)----- reed（芦苇）；

　　door----- rood（十字架）；

　　doom（注定）----- mood（心境）；

　　deem（认为）----- meed（恰当的回报）；

　　dot（点）----- tod（狐）；

　　evil（罪恶）------ live（生活）；

　　God----- dog；

　　gnat（小干扰）----- tang（强烈的味道）；

　　gulp（吞）-------plug（插座）；

　　tom（雄猫）----- mot（警句）；

　　tops（顶）------- spot（点）；

　　tun（大酒桶）------ nut（坚果）。

　　2. 同义词的对称。以连词and 为"对称轴"的非完全对称，以形容词词组居多。通过两个或多个形容词的重叠来强化形容词的特点。例如：

　　one and only 独一无二

　　down and out 困窘潦倒

　　free and easy 随跟

　　hard and fast 不能改变的

　　open and above board 光亮磊落

　　*** and easy 简易明了

　　hot and bothered冲动，担心

　　cheer and bright 明白明了

　　bright and early 一大早

　　pure and *** 十足

　　3.反义词的对称。一对反义词以连词and或or为"对称轴"，可能是名词的对称，也可能是副词或动词的对称。如有个活动不管刮风下雨都要照常进行，在汉语中?quot;风雨无阻"，在

　　英语中为rain or shine ，二者堪称有殊途同归之妙。例如：

　　up and down 来回

　　to and fro 交来回回

　　back and forth 前前后后

　　far and forth 到处，远处

　　far and near 留心事项

　　dos and don'ts 执政党与在野党

　　ins and outs 复杂细节,拐角道路或小径的曲折之处

　　ups and downs 盛衰，浮沉

　　on and off 或多或少

　　more or less 迟早

　　sooner or less 高低贵贱

　　young and old 老老少少

　　day and night 日日夜夜

　　the haves and have-nots穷富

　　early and late 迟早

　　rain or shine 不管境遇如何，风雨无阻

　　right or wrong 不管对错

　　hit or miss 不管成功与否

　　4.同类词的对称。同类别或相干的一对名词认为and"对称轴"，表示同一律念，有的为本义，有的是寓义。比方说美国人吃生果时爱好把生果切成块，而后加上一点奶油一起吃，所以在英语中peaches and cream 就象征着完美无缺。例如：

　　flesh and blood 血肉 hand and foot 四肢一起

　　heart and soul 全心全意

　　tooth and nail 全力以赴

　　father and son 父子

　　husband and wife 夫妻

　　knife and fork 刀叉

　　smoke and mirrors 用虚假消息骗人

　　scissors and paste 拼凑成的文章，剪贴

　　peaches and cream 完美无缺

　　rank and fashion 上流社会

　　二、led照明韵语的对称美：英语的对称美不仅表示为成语排列的对称美，还表示为韵语的对称美。韵语的对称分为首韵对称跟尾韵对称两种情势，它们以连词and或or为"对称轴"，构成语音重叠的成语。

　　1、首韵对称。首韵法是英语中的一种润饰伎俩，是首字母或辅音的反复，通过语音的重叠与的来强化语用后果。例如：

　　fair or foul 好坏

　　friend or foe 敌友

　　forgive and forget 既住不咎

　　live and learn 活到老学到老,学无尽头

　　health and wealth 健康与财产

　　safe and sound 安全无事，坦然无恙

　　sweet and sour 酸甜，苦乐

　　thick and thin 在任何情况下

　　black and blue 皮开肉绽

　　now or never 勿失良机，机不可失

　　then and there 当场，当时

　　cut and carve 使精炼，修改，乱砍

　　bed and board 食宿，夫妇关联，家

　　sink or swim 放任沉浮，不管好歹

　　wild and woolly 粗野的，未开化的

　　do or die 决一雌雄

　　neck or nothing 逼上梁山，拼命

　　make or mar 成功或失败

　　part and parcel 重要的部分

　　wreck and ruin 覆灭

　　twists and turns 曲折波折

　　bread and butter 基本生活所需，生计

　　2. 尾韵对称。通过押尾韵的方法使短语如同诗个别动人动人。例如：

　　near and dear 极密切的

　　cut and thurst 搏斗战

　　by hook or by crook 千方百计

　　fair and square 光亮磊落

　　high and dry 窘境

　　make or break 孤注一掷

　　tear and wear 磨损

　　gentle and *** 贵与贱

　　dine and wine 吃喝

　　mend or end 不改则废

　　here and there 到处

　　first and last 整体看来，总的来说

　　odds and ends 零碎的事件，零碎的货色

　　pins and needles 发麻

　　三、光栅尺谚语跟俗语的对称美：对仗工整，词句，押韵，语言精炼，表意透切的谚语或俗语更存在说服力跟感染力，可使人朝思暮想，受用毕生。例如：

　　No pains no gains 不劳不获

　　No cross , no crown 无苦即无乐

　　Once bit ,twice shy 一次被咬，下次胆小

　　First come , first served 先到的先接待 Young saints , old devils 小时圣洁老***

　　Man proposes , God disposes 谋事在人，成事在天

　　From saving comes having 富有来自节俭。

　　So far , so good 目前为止，所有很好

　　Like father , like son 有其父，必有其子

　　Well fed , well bred 吃得饱，懂礼貌

　　Grasp all , lose all 贪多必失。

　　Spare the rod , and spoil the child 不教不长进。

　　More haste ,less speed 欲速则不达。

　　In for a penny , in for a pound 一不做，二不休

　　Waste not , want not 俭以防匮。

　　A friend in need is a friend indeed .患难见真情。

　　Harm set , harm get .害人反害已

　　A lazy youth , a lousy age .少壮不尽力，老大徒伤悲

　　Least said , soonest mended .少说为妙

　　Light come , light go .易得则易失。

　　A good neighbor ,a good morrow 好邻生好景

　　Two's company , three's none . 两人成伴，三人不欢

　　Out of sight , out of mind .眼不见，心不烦

　　Speech is silver , silence is gold .语言是银，沉默是金

　　（4）细刻精雕丝缕毕现——评许渊冲教养新译《毛译东诗词选》的修辞美

　　作为中国译坛上璀灿群星之一的许渊冲先生，虽说年过古稀，著述等身，有名遐尔，却是老骥伏枥，笔耕不止。未多少前问世的《毛泽东诗词选》英译本就是其力作之一。笔者案头一卷，反复吟哦，越读越觉译笔精美韵味无穷。先生懂得原作，高深独到，加之又熟谙中英诗律，细刻精雕，得心应手，将原作的妙处表白得酣畅淋漓，成功地再现原诗的意境。

　　诗词的灵魂是意境。故近代学者王国维在《世间词话》中指出："言气质，言韵味，不如言境界，本也。气质，韵味末也。有境界而二者随之矣。”毛泽东诗词既有实境，也有虚境；既有切实美，又有空灵美，尽大多数则是二者的***同一，存在独特的审美价值。单刀直入气概磅礴，借景抒怀，情景融合；虚实相映，以臻完美，修辞奇妙，浑然天成，是其内在的特点。许教养的新译本最大特点就是成功地保持了诗人原作上述特点，再现了原诗的精美意境。

　　那么，译者是怎么宏观着眼，微观把笔从修辞上再现原作深远旨意跟广阔境界的呢，概括起来有三点：

　　一、选词精当求音美

　　中国诗人作诗填词长短常讲究如精炼正确的，“考虑”一词的来历就是这个含意。“红杏枝头春意闹”及“云破月来花弄影”中的“闹”"弄“二字的选用更是千古佳话。而英语中也有头韵、衬韵，音节长短、洪亮之分。如William Blake的诗“The Tiger”首章就是一例：

　　Tiger, Tiger, burning bright

　　In the forests of night,

　　What immortal hand or eye

　　Could frame thy fearful symmetry.

　　美国的儿歌中亦有这样的例子：

　　Star light, star bright,

　　The first star I see tonight.

　　苏曼殊大师在翻译屈原“离骚”中名句“路漫漫其修远兮，吾将高低而求索”也是采取此伎俩：

　　The journey is long,

　　I‘ll search up and down.

　　许译文中这种伎俩频频应用，且看《如梦令·新年》中最后一句的译文：

　　Below,

　　Below,

　　The winds unrolls

　　Red flags like scrolls.

　　原文：山下山下，风展红旗如画。

　　这样的译文真堪称绘色绘声。

　　另一例可见《菩萨·大柏地》首句译文：

　　Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet

　　Who‘s dancing with a colored band in the sky fire-lit?

　　原文：赤橙黄绿青蓝紫，谁持彩练当空舞？沙盘模拟

　　这种加衬一字的画龙点睛之笔非对source language 及 target language 驾驭娴熟不可为之，寥寥“fire-lit”一词不仅使诗意更浓，吟诵起来琅琅上口，铿铿锵锵，而且使原诗残暴轻巧的意境登时重现出来，真是佳趣横生，妙不可言。

　　类似的例子还有不少，如《清平乐·六盘山》首句： The sky is high, the clouds are light, The wild geese flying south out of sight. 原文：天高云淡，看断南飞雁。

　　在一个十六个词的译句中，带[ai]音的词就多达六个，且在句中安排得非常有节奏感。节奏、音韵跟诗体这是诗律学研究的三个范畴。节奏的量变包含音长、音强、音高三因素，许教养抉择这样一级洪亮高亢，但又不长的英文词来译无疑长短常幻想的。

　　《沁园春·雪》为毛诗中力作，hardness tester“山舞银蛇，原驰蜡象，欲与到公试比高。”更是脍灸人口的美喻佳句，许先生在翻译这句诗上也是殚精竭虑，匠心独运的，且看：

　　Mountains lide silver serpents dancing,

　　Highlands like waxy elephants advancing,

　　All try to match the sky in height.

　　先说选词，用mountain比hill正确贴切原文，才干构成气概；dance与advance搭配，不仅音韵上美，而且用advance来描述象的应用更为贴切。其次，句势整洁；至于由暗喻转明喻无伤大雅。

　　二、造句工整求形美

　　许先生在其译序中单刀直入，就引用了一位本国作家对于界定诗与散文的精辟舆论：

　　"Prose is words in the best order: poetry is the best words in best order."

　　许先生译成：散文是颠三倒四的文字；诗是颠三倒四的尽妙好词。

　　由此可见选词造句在写作与翻译中是何等的重要，在此，许先生是将其奉若圭臬的。他非常讲究译文与原作在句势上的等同，下面是一些等同直译的佳例：

　　The wind rises o‘er islets green, ‘mid waves it drops,

　　The rain from verdurous fields comes up to mountain tops.七律《跟周世钊同道》：风起绿洲吹浪往，雨从青野上山来。

　　Riding the earth, one goes eight myriad li a day;

　　Ranging the sky, one sees Milky Ways from afar.

　　七律《送瘟神》：坐地日行八万里，巡天远看一千河。

　　即便因为中英文造句上寻求力度跟表示伎俩上的差别，他也力求译文句势的工整，以尽力传达原文的句势美与节奏感，如：

　　I see hills on hills all in red

　　And wood on wood in a deep dye…

　　《沁园春·长沙》：看万山红遍，层林尽染……

　　Far and wide eagles cleave the blue;

　　Up and down fish in shallows glide;

　　鹰击长空，鱼翔浅底……

　　hills on hills及wood on wood; far and wide 及up and down既合乎英语语言习惯，又进一步加强了原文动词"击"跟 "翔"表白的力度。

　　在英语中利用倒装句要比汉语频繁得多，故许译本也不断见，些不赘述。

　　这里还要特别指出的是许教养在构思诗人唯逐个首六言诗《给彭德怀同道》的译文时，更是另辟道路，别具匠心，奇妙引进了分行梯形排列的句式，将原诗的意与境传达得酣畅淋漓，且看最后一问一答，译诗何等活泼有力：

　　Who is there

　　wielding his sword

　　and rearing his horse?

　　It is none

　　but General Peng

　　of our mighty force.

　　不仅句式美(who is there + gerund; It is none but …)，用词也美(sword, horse, force)。Mighty一词加得尤其好，一行一顿，始终加强力度。非如此，原诗中"谁敢……""唯我……"常用句型就无奈传达出来，就不意境，不力度。

　　此外杂言诗《八连颂》的翻译也是值得一提的，限于篇幅，只能让读者自多少? 途捉懒恕?

　　一、踊跃修辞求意美

　　前?**颐且丫倒蠖氖首钪匾囊桓鎏氐闶瞧湟饩趁溃湟饩呈峭ü幌盗行薮呛蠓ɡ词迪值模庖彩窃鞯姆绺竦囊徊糠帧Ｒ虼顺晒Φ囊胱鞅匦氤晒Φ卦傧衷鞯姆绺瘢拦爰夷未?E. A. Nida )就说过：

　　"Translation consists in reproducing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalent or the source language message, first in terms of meaning and secondly in terms of ."

　　又说：

　　"Source texts also differ greatly in the excellence of , Generally, an excellent also means greater problems for the translator in doing justiee to the associative meaning."

　　好吧，那么下?**颐蔷屠纯纯葱硐壬馕灰胩炒蠹以谘〈试炀涞幕旧希詈笫窃趺蠢创碓姆绺裼胄薮堑摹?

　　经过研究，我感到许先生的办法有三：

　　1、保持原有修辞格，进行等同翻译：

　　明喻等同直译：Green mountains like the tide;

　　The sunken sun blood-dyed.《忆秦哦·娄山关》苍山如海，残阳如血。

　　暗喻与夸大等同直译：From the earth comes the news of the Tiger o‘ erthrown, /In a sudden shower their tears fly down. 《蝶恋花·答李淑一》：

　　忽报世间曾伏虎，泪飞顿作倾盆雨。

　　2、保持原有修辞格，机动变通翻译：

　　暗喻变明喻：Mountains lide silver serpents dancing, /Highlands like waxy elephants advancing…

　　山舞银蛇，原驰腊象……

　　比方转双关：Most Chinese daughters have desire so strong,/To face the powder and not to powder the face.七尽《为女民兵题照》：中华儿女多奇志，不爱红装爱武装。

　　3、省略或增加修辞格：

　　往典故：After thirty-one years,back in the ancient town,

　　I read your fine verse ‘midfalling blooms in late spring.

　　七律《跟柳亚子先生》：三十一年还旧国，落花季节读华章。

　　中文典故转西方典故，加明喻：With our courage unspent pursue the foe o‘erthrown! Do not fish like the Herculean King for renown!七律《国民解放军占据南京》：宜将剩勇追穷寇，不可沽名学霸王。

　　综上所述许渊冲教养所译毛译东诗词相称隽永地保持了原作语言艺术的风采跟修辞上的风格，这是其长期昌导翻译诗"三美"准则的最好实际，对咱们从事翻译工作的后辈仁攀来说，是能从中获得很大启发起程跟收益的。
